Another way to invest is in what we call a broker dealer account which is where you pay a commission instead of an advisory fee. Although we are held to a Best Interest standard it is not the same standard as a fiduciary standard. So why work this way? Sometimes someone has an old account that may not make sense to move to an advisory / fiduciary account, there may be a product with certain guarantees not available in an advisory / fiduciary account or there may be certain alternative investments like REIT's or Business Partnerships that are not available in an advisory / fiduciary account.
